This teapot is made from a very rare form of Zhuni Zisha clay, known as Dahongpao, which is a deeper tone of red-orange. Naturally, there are several counterfeit clays on market which attempt to mimic this, but we were able to source the unblended, entirely natural Dahongpao Zhuni clay. The high iron and low aluminum content of Dahongpao makes it very difficult to fire without breaking. The sound the teapot makes when tapped is a beautiful ringing hum.
Dahongpao, like all Zhuni Zisha, has a wonderfully bumpy texture, and is sought after for its flavor improving qualities, enhancing the high notes of the lquor. The porous nature of Yixing clay allows it to become seasoned after extensive use, absorbing aromatic compounds and oils from the tea. The unique mineral composition of the clay, and their ionic capabilities, purportedly enhance the flavor profiles of certain teas.
