Biandeng is a popular shape of teapot, that is both elegant and versatile. The name translates to "flat drum", in reference to the wide, shallow body looking similar to a Chinese drum of war.
This teapot is made with the rare, red colored Zhuni clay, harvested in Yixing. This clay has a bumpy texture and will develop a deep luster after repeated use. The porous nature of Yixing clay allows it to become seasoned, absorbing aromatic compounds and oils from the tea. The unique mineral composition of the clay, and their ionic capabilities, purportedly enhance the flavor profiles of the brew.
