A mountain, reverberating with life, rises through a thick bank of clouds. It is engulfed by verdant, herbaceous jungle; permeated by the aromas of ripe, salted mango, sun soaked amber, and propolis. The delicate perfumed skin of peach, dark testosterone, distant oceans, wild roses and citrus groves, all beckon from a gentle wind. The textures are fluidly moving, alive, and full of luminous, golden light.
This oil is a co-distillation using equal parts of wild Aquilaria malaccensis and Aquilaria agallocha. The trees were harvested and distilled over firewood by a father and son team in Tripura, India. The fires for the distillation were closely maintained, day and night, continuously for more than a month’s time. When the elder distiller held the oil to his nose for the first time, he looked at his sun, with smile spreading across his face. In that moment the name was revealed to him, and he said aloud, “Calypso!”
